About this event
This class was formally called Jota. Spanish Folk Dance introduces students to the rich traditions of regional dances from throughout Spain. Designed for students ages 7–17, this class explores the music, movement, rhythms, and cultural traditions that have influenced Spanish dance for centuries and continue to shape flamenco today. Students study a variety of regional dances while learning to perform with traditional instruments such as castanets and the pandereta (tambourine). Through lively choreography and music, students develop coordination, musicality, stamina, and cultural understanding while experiencing the diversity of Spain's dance traditions. As a companion study, Spanish Folk Dance complements flamenco training by developing cardiovascular endurance, rhythmic accuracy, coordination, and dynamic movement qualities that enhance overall dance technique.
