- ➤ Residents are advised by the Bernalillo Water Authority to prepare for the approaching winter storm by disconnecting hoses, draining sprinklers and insulating pipes in unheated areas. They also urge knowing the master shut-off valve’s location to quickly stop water in case a pipe bursts + avoid repair delays. KOAT

- ➤ UNM’s Music Prep School and String Lab School offer affordable music classes to all ages. Registration for spring classes runs Jan. 24-May 2, and new offerings include beginner string lessons and expanded early childhood music while the UNM Children’s Chorus welcomes a new co-director. - ➤ The 'Breaking Bad Habits' anti-littering campaign removed over 10.5 million pounds of trash from across New Mexico last year — more than 19,000 volunteers from state agencies, community groups, and schools helped keep neighborhoods clean, the Governor's Office said. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ A winter storm passed through Albuquerque on Thursday and brought snow, small hail and graupel — soft ice pellets formed when water droplets freeze on snow crystals and break apart when touched. KOAT

- ➤ Former activist and two term lieutenant governor Roberto Mondragón, known for singing about New Mexico and championing bilingual education and elder rights, died Tuesday at 85 from natural causes— a public memorial service is planned Jan. 27 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. - ➤ An Albuquerque judge ordered Quirky Books to end its homeless encampment after city attorneys raised public safety concerns, prompting worries that vulnerable people could lose a needed safe space. The owner contests any zoning violations (having paid previous fines). KOAT
- ➤ Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham appointed Rex Wilson to the state Senate seat for District 33 yesterday. Wilson, a former healthcare administrator and longtime rancher, plans to work on health care and agricultural issues until the Nov. 3 election after recommendations from commissions in Chaves, Lincoln, and Otero counties. - ➤ Rep. Marian Matthews introduced three bills this week to join licensure compacts for paramedics, counselors, and psychologists to help ease New Mexico’s health care shortage. - ➤ Housing New Mexico opened its waitlist for the Home Improvement Program, offering zero percent interest conditional forgivable loans in eight counties (including Guadalupe, Harding, and Los Alamos) to help income-eligible homeowners repair aging homes with safety, energy, and accessibility concerns.
