CULTURE NEWS

  • UNM assistant professor Stephanie J. Woods' sculpture, created during her summer residency at the Bemis Center, has been acquired by the Perry Art Collection & will be featured in her exhibition opening Jan. 24, marking a significant career milestone that honors cultural heritage.  University of New Mexico

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNM launched LoboLift as a free ride service for after-dark travel on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The pilot, developed by students in collaboration with ASUNM and PATS – operating through June 30 – aims to boost campus safety.  University of New Mexico

  • The legislature may consider a revised Clear Horizons Act that could codify Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s 2019 climate goals by allowing certified carbon offsets and exempting small emitters—lawmakers will debate the proposal during the 2026 session.  Source NM
  • Today, cold nights and mild days prevail in Albuquerque until a winter storm is forecast to bring rain, snow, and sleet Friday into the weekend—causing travel delays and possible accumulation in areas such as Bernalillo and Rio Rancho.  KOAT
  • Today, chilly conditions prevail with 5 to 15 degrees lower than usual and sunny skies forecast this afternoon with highs in the low to mid 50s; forecasters warn a winter storm will bring wintry mix and potential snow on Friday and Saturday statewide.  KOAT

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Winter in New Mexico offers visitors a serene escape with quiet snowy vistas and warm local culture. On Jan. 23, the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market pavilion hosts WinterBrew 2026 and Restaurant Week begins March 2, bringing art, cuisine, and local experiences to the region.  The Paper.

  • New Mexico’s ski season is underway as storms cool temperatures and help resorts expand terrain after warm holidays.
