CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new interactive guide maps indigenous communities and history along Route 66 for travelers seeking an authentic native experience. Gail Chehak (11 years with the American Indigenous Tourism Association) developed the map and it features pueblos, powwows, and local stops. KOAT
- ➤ Sing-A-Long Broadway will take place Sunday, Jan. 25 in Albuquerque. Hosts Kevin Hammonds and Kerry Ipema will lead an interactive sing-along with tunes from Wicked, Hairspray, Les Miserables, Moulin Rouge and Sweeney Todd — inviting everyone to enjoy a Broadway celebration. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has asked lawmakers to approve over $160 million to expand the universal childcare program that served 40,000 children since November, with infant care costing 86% more than public university tuition while the Legislative Finance Committee offered only $10 million. - ➤ UNM Online honored instructors who completed the Fall 2025 Foundational Course Design Review by awarding a $500 stipend and recognition for effective online course design (supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning). Instructors at Albuquerque Main Campus can sign up for future reviews. University of New Mexico
- ➤ UNM researchers measured Apollo lunar soil and found that meteorite impacts delivered only a small fraction of Earth's water; their study supports theories that Earth's water came from other sources. The team also trains Albuquerque students using hands-on planetary science projects (Bosque School students will share research this spring). University of New Mexico

- ➤ PNM is preparing for potential power outages amid heavy snow and ice, urging residents to build emergency kits and sign up for LifeWatch if anyone needs electrical medical equipment - outages may last for hours during severe winter weather. KOAT
- ➤ PNM warns customers to prepare emergency kits with food, water, flashlights, batteries and medications as a significant winter storm will impact the area late Friday into Saturday, Jan. 24; residents relying on electric medical equipment should sign up for LifeWatch (a notification service) while crews remain on standby. - ➤ A winter storm may slow flights from Albuquerque Sunport this weekend, so passengers should use airline apps + visit help desks for rebooking if cancellations occur. KOAT
