- ➤ Volunteers conducted Albuquerque’s annual point-in-time count on Jan. 28 — the survey gathered data and personal stories to secure federal funding for homeless services. - ➤ Dr. Jan Abernathie, a 96-year-old horticulturist at Wonder Gardens, continues caring for thousands of plants after more than fifty years in botany. His co-workers admire his passion for plants (he started his journey as a child) and note that retirement is not in his vocabulary. KOAT

- ➤ On Jan. 24, the City hosted the Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series with local photographer Richard Ruddy leading 'Route 66 in Downtown Albuquerque' at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House in the South Valley & recounting the roadway's century-long impact on community growth. - ➤ The University of New Mexico School of Engineering is hosting its second annual Change and Empowerment Summit on Friday, Feb. 20 at the Centennial Engineering Center Stamm Room. - ➤ UNM Athletics unveiled a $58 million plan to upgrade University Stadium by addressing infrastructure, accessibility, and safety challenges noted during crowded football games. - ➤ UNM Utility Services earned its fourth IWEE Award for installing advanced control technology that saves over 6 million gallons annually in campus cooling towers while reducing costs by $20,000 (raising 2024 total savings to about 14.3 million gallons).
