CULTURE NEWS

  • The Librarians, a documentary by filmmaker Kim Snyder that examines the backlash librarians face over book bans, will be shown Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Albuquerque's International District Library. The film highlights the tough choices librarians face in a nationwide debate.  KUNM
  • On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Take Me To The River Headphone Dance Party brought Albuquerque residents together near the Rio Grande to dance with flags and hula hoops (capturing a lively community spirit).  Albuquerque Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Albuquerque Public Schools is considering a later start for the 2027-28 school year. Families can share their preference by Feb. 20 through a survey on aps.edu, choosing between a schedule from Aug. 6 to May 25 or another from Aug. 19 to June 8.  Albuquerque Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A report released at the Legislature yesterday shows that over 38,000 oil and gas spills occurred last year in New Mexico while spill volumes increased—98% happened in Lea and Eddy counties—raising concerns that incomplete data may hide the true impact and prompt stricter accountability measures amid produced water rule debates.  KUNM
  • Today, Albuquerque sees warm, breezy skies with a high of 67—near a record 69—while eastern areas face red flag warnings from 11am to 6pm over dangerous fire weather; tomorrow scattered showers may hit southern and southeast NM with a chance for rain and mountain snow Friday.  KOAT
