EDUCATION NEWS

  • Moviemaker Magazine ranked Albuquerque as one of the best cities for filmmakers for the eighth time, boosting UNM’s Film & Digital Arts department’s reputation. The program draws students with expert faculty and notable alumni success, promising a unique film education for local talent.  University of New Mexico
  • The Anderson School signed an agreement with Osaka Metropolitan University that will let doctoral students study 12 credit hours at Anderson while earning a master’s degree and guarantees credit transfers for five years. A professor from the school will teach a summer course in Osaka.  University of New Mexico
  • Albuquerque Public Schools placed Corrales K-8 principal Alvaro Ramazzini on administrative leave on Feb. 6 while an internal investigation continues. Casey Reid Kadlec of Inez Elementary now oversees the school — located at 200 Target Road — as APS reviews the personnel matter.  Albuquerque Journal

  • The Indian Health Service announced it will phase out mercury dental fillings at its Albuquerque clinic (pursuing resin alternatives) by 2027, citing health and environmental concerns.  Albuquerque Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNM beat Air Force Falcons (98-61) on Tuesday, Feb. 17 to secure a season sweep and mark the Lobos' 20th win; Head Coach Eric Olen joined four others in reaching that milestone in his first season, while forward Antonio Chol led with 20 points.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • Nearly 1,000 athletes competed at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center; track stars from across ages showcased record-breaking jumps and races. Among longtime friends, 91-year-old Florence Meiler won the women’s long jump with a leap of 1.55 meters as competitors celebrated fitness and fun.  Albuquerque Journal
  • The University of New Mexico baseball team swept Fordham in a three-game series at Santa Ana Star Field, highlighted by a dramatic walk-off win in a 10-9 final game. The Lobos dominated the other matchups and will face Northern Colorado University next weekend.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
