ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A UNM study found Albuquerque’s creative economy generated $1.1 billion in 2024 with 17,680 workers at 2,457 businesses — 4.4% of local jobs. - ➤ The principal of Corrales K-8 was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 6 amid an APS investigation. Interim principal (Casey Reid Kadlec) is now leading the school. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ The University of New Mexico will host Open Education Week from Mar. 2 to Mar. 6 (a global celebration of free educational resources) with in-person book fairs, creative workshops, and virtual panels promoting accessible learning for all. University of New Mexico
- ➤ The Legislature passed four education bills revising math, literacy, and special education standards and adjusting virtual learning funding; they now await Gov. Lujan Grisham’s signature as the PED (Public Education Department) prepares guidelines, including teacher preparation changes by July. Source NM

- ➤ Lawmakers approved a reform bill last week that caps punitive damages and extends the state malpractice fund by three years — measures expected to lower insurance premiums by up to 16% and help ease the doctor shortage.
