  • Holmans USA confirmed that its CEO John Santoru died Saturday after a medical incident at 58. He built the firm’s IT services & improved employee benefits to support Albuquerque’s business community.  Albuquerque Journal
  • HITT Contracting acquired New Mexico-based Brycon Corp on Feb. 2 to expand its high-tech semiconductor and clean room construction work in the Southwest — the deal allows Brycon to operate under its name while ensuring no layoffs amid a boost in regional projects.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Amalie Coffee Co. has attracted many customers with seasonal lattes and Middle Eastern desserts after opening four months ago near the University (2132 Central SE). The shop saw busy floors over Valentine’s Day weekend as the Awad family adjusted to customer feedback.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Phat Stax Burgers opened its second Albuquerque location (1301 Eubank NE) in January, serving hip hop themed smash burgers and fries. Owner Caskey Hill launched the eatery after operating a food truck and his first location in Nob Hill.  Albuquerque Journal

  • Get Out! offers events Feb.27: Opera Southwest’s Aida plays at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Fri. and Sun., Hiland Company Dancers show Moving Stories at Hiland Theater Feb.27-28, Cirque Mechanics presents TILT! Feb.27, a Route 66 Speaker Series runs Feb.28, and KlezmerQuerque and Anything Goes follow in early March.  The Paper.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tribal leaders and plaintiffs presented objections last week, saying the Public Education Department plan fails to offer a clear path for improving support for Native and other at-risk students—calling for a new plan developed with input from cultural experts. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Record heat is impacting Albuquerque today as temperatures near a record 77°F place the area on fire danger alert (wind advisories are active in some regions). Forecasts show a slight drop tomorrow with increased chances for rain next week.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jason Casuga reported an abysmal 2026 irrigation forecast for Sandoval County as water levels drop to historic lows and noted delays in the Corrales siphon replacement project (equipment is stuck), while the Bureau of Reclamation will begin a three-phase river diversion on March 3 to protect local banks.  Sandoval Signpost

  • The Breaking Bad house at 3828 Piermont NE sold for $1.3 million on Wednesday morning after a competitive bidding war - internet personality Adin Ross confirmed ownership and plans to redesign the home into a series replica.  Albuquerque Journal
