EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alvaro Ramazzini, principal at Corrales K-8 School, is on leave as an internal investigation begins while Casey Reid-Kadlec manages daily operations (APS spokesperson said the matter is strictly personnel related).  Sandoval Signpost

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local experts advise residents in Albuquerque to use over-the-counter ant baits, clean up spills and crumbs, and secure screens (to reduce bug entry) as mild weather leads to increased bug activity. They also suggest moderating garden watering to control moisture and call a professional if problems persist.  KOAT
  • The Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District advises irrigators that poor snowpack will lead to rotational water deliveries as the season begins gradually in early March; farmers should check service issues and perform system maintenance + stay alert for off-hour updates.  Sandoval Signpost
  • Lincoln National Forest will conduct prescribed burns until March 7 to reduce wildfire risk, including a 460-acre pile burn along Forest Road 288 near Latham Canyon. Temporary closures and smoke may affect areas such as Mayhill, 16 Springs and James Canyon — drivers should exercise caution.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bernalillo County Commission approved a new policy that grades corporations seeking tax breaks based on how much benefit they provide to the community (encouraging local hiring, work training, and environmental efforts) and will take effect in late April.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Residents in Corrales should allow added time Saturday morning as Public Service Company of NM crews repair a transformer at Corrales and Perea Roads, reducing lane access until Saturday evening, mayor Fred Hashimoto said. He also noted poll worker openings + a temporary water leasing pause + fire safety tips.  Sandoval Signpost
  • A state judge (in Santa Fe) dismissed a court challenge against gubernatorial candidate Duke Rodriguez on Friday, keeping him on track for the June primary ballot. The ruling marks his second legal win this week.  Albuquerque Journal
