- ➤ Photographer Nathaniel Tetsuro Paolinelli captured Albuquerque's vibrant lowrider culture on Sundays along Central, and his book Seventh & Central: Lowriders will be available on March 17 through UNM Press & local booksellers. The Paper.
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UNM-Valencia chancellor Samuel Dosumu stepped down effective March 9, and Dr. Laura Musselwhite was named interim to lead campus operations. Dosumu remains in the Division of Social Sciences, maintaining his longstanding role at the institution. University of New Mexico
- ➤ The UNM District Partner Teacher Residency program received the 2026 Billy G. Dixon Distinguished Program in Teacher Education Award, marking its second national honor. The program partners with local school districts and serves over 100 teacher residents (across 18 districts) while strengthening teacher preparation statewide. University of New Mexico
- ➤ UNM staff may soon receive extended paid parental leave as a new policy offering eight weeks is under review following the Staff Council’s push for 12 weeks; public comments are open until April 5 (affecting roughly 6,600 employees) before final approval by the university president. - ➤ U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury announced a federal appropriation of $1,092,000 to install a bypass wastewater system in Corrales, easing repairs and protecting local groundwater. Construction is expected to begin later this year along Loma Larga Road. Sandoval Signpost
- ➤ Rio Rancho Fire Chief James Wenzel (one of 24 selected nationwide) was chosen for the 2026 Fire Service Executive Development Institute, a year-long program by the International Association of Fire Chiefs. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ New Mexico Medicaid now covers traditional healing practices for eligible Native American members in participating tribes, nations, and pueblos after tribal leaders and healers helped shape the benefit. The state will set reimbursement rates for Indian Health Services providers before the program becomes fully implemented. KOAT
