EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ APS police now monitor campuses using live cameras & drones from the Real-Time Crime Center to speed up responses during emergencies. The new role adds a layer of safety for APS students and staff. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ New Mexico ranks 20th in adult education nationwide per the federal Office of Career and Technical Education—a jump from 50th seven years ago—thanks to skill gains and a $20 million boost for distance learning and workforce programs. - ➤ Officials are finalizing a master plan for the state fairgrounds redevelopment in Northeast Albuquerque, and New Mexico United is considered a candidate to anchor the upgrade as they weigh a proposal for a new sports stadium. - ➤ New Mexico's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples Task Force met Friday in Acoma Pueblo to review funding priorities & to boost forensic testing and support services for affected Indigenous families. - ➤ David Betts of Mount Washington has developed an app called Talk To Me, Goose that preserves users’ natural voices using AI to convert text into speech. The tool, inspired by a Top Gun line, is free on iPhone and Android and is available now in the U.S. and Canada. KOAT
- ➤ A bobcat that tested positive for rabies was euthanized after attacking several dogs in Sierra County; affected pets are now monitored (for 45 days) as health officials urge residents to vaccinate pets and avoid wild animals. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ State health officials reported on Monday the first rabies case of 2026 when a bobcat bit several dogs in Sierra County. They noted last week’s first plague and hantavirus cases in Santa Fe County and urged pet owners to update vaccinations — a precaution as warmer weather may boost exposure risks. Source NM
