GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A coalition of immigrants' rights advocates filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security after ICE arrested 48 New Mexico residents in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Roswell earlier in March, noting that most of those detained had no criminal history. • The New Mexico Senate passed House Bill 12 on March 18, which expands the Red Flag Law so police can file petitions to remove guns immediately. The bill, which passed 23—15, now heads to Governor Lujan Grisham’s desk and must be approved before the legislative session ends on Saturday.  KKOB
  • The Senate passed a bill Monday evening—by a 22 to 15 vote—to require registered lobbyists and those who pay them to file reports on which bills they support or oppose. The House must now agree to the changes in House Bill 143 and if passed the law will take effect in January 2027 with reports due within 48 hours.  New Mexico In Depth
