BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alyssa Sauter, a 25-year-old Miss Rodeo New Mexico from Moriarty, has helped local farmers by running Clover Feed & Supply since 2019, supplying chicks, horse care products, and feed hay. She will compete for Miss Rodeo America in December & shows with hard work that determination can build a thriving business supporting the Western way of life.  KOAT

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers responded to a call around 5 a.m. on the 800 block of 11th Street NW Sunday, where they found a person unresponsive who died at the scene and later took a suspect into custody with the identity yet to be released.  KOAT
  • Albuquerque police arrested a man on Sunday on suspicion of murder—he is charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his friend at a home near Downtown.  Albuquerque Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mutazz 'Tazz' Jaber, current ASUNM vice president, is running for president with a campaign that focuses on parking, digital IDs, student housing and campus safety—including launching the Lobo Lift initiative. He will work with university officials, campus police and the state Legislature as elections begin on March 26th and conclude on March 27th.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • Civil engineering doctoral candidate Travis Broadhurst was elected president of UNM's Graduate and Professional Student Association and will take office May 17. He has served in key roles for three years — including as director of Boards, Committees and Elections and sustainability director — and plans to improve dental care support and increase collaboration with the United Graduate Workers.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • The Education Department announced on March 14 that it is investigating 45 universities—including UNM—for practices that may exclude race in their graduate programs. Officials said the probe will check Title VI rules—including partnerships with nonprofits that help minority Ph.D. candidates—and will require reports by March 31.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 355 measles cases have been reported in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, with New Mexico recording 42 cases—40 in Lea County and most in those not vaccinated with the MMR shot. New Mexico health officials warn that the virus may spread for months and have set up a hotline to answer vaccine questions—encouraging residents to check their vaccination records.  KOAT
