CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A stolen vehicle crashed into an Albuquerque police car at the intersection of Wyoming Boulevard and Copper Avenue NE while a sergeant was heading to the car's last known location and was taken to the hospital—police identified 39-year-old Andrew Sandoval as the driver and said two others inside face no charges while investigators prepare to serve a search warrant that may determine if the case is tried federally. - ➤ The first trailer for the film Rust was released more than three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on a New Mexico set. In the trailer Alec Baldwin stars as an outlaw on the run in wild west shootouts set in 1880s Kansas—his involuntary manslaughter charges were dismissed in 2024. KOAT

- ➤ UNM’s Women’s Resource Center has helped women at school and in the community by offering counseling, mentorship and leadership programs, and it celebrates Women’s History Month every day. - ➤ Legislators did not pass a standalone overhaul for reading instruction but added key structured literacy provisions to HB156, which now awaits Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's signature. - ➤ On March 25, the Sandoval Academy of Bilingual Education celebrated its 10th anniversary with over 100 guests at its Enchanted Hills site—marking a milestone in the school’s growth from 83 to 225 students. - ➤ New Mexico environment officials have proposed new heat protections for workers that would require rest breaks, cool areas and adequate water—covering both indoor and outdoor settings—as part of a rule to reduce heat illnesses. - ➤ Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will sign Senate Bill 41 to create the Turquoise Alert system that helps locate missing Native Americans after the Legislature passed the bill unanimously. The alert will work like the Amber Alert system — especially on reservations with weak law enforcement—ensuring quicker responses for those enrolled or eligible for federally or state-recognized tribes. - ➤ Starting July 1, New Mexico will allow cyclists to roll through stop signs & red lights when safe after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed Senate Bill 73. The law aims to reduce collision risks by helping riders exit intersections more quickly. Source NM
- ➤ Rio Rancho police will hold a car seat clinic today at Rainbow Pool parking lot from 1:30 to 4:00 to help parents install seats correctly and prevent injuries. Officer Cody Roberts said nearly half of car seats are installed wrong — when installed properly, they can reduce injury risk by up to 71%. KOAT
