COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers of the ‘NO KINGS’ rally expect 37,000 people to march along a 3-mile route from Montgomery Park tomorrow — police will enforce road closures and urge carpooling due to limited parking. The event will feature speakers including Stacey Abrams and Representative Melanie Stansbury.  The Paper.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two landmark verdicts fined Meta and YouTube a total of $381 million for harm related to children's mental health — including a $375 million fine in Santa Fe. A second trial in New Mexico may lead to new restrictions on tech platforms while Meta plans to appeal its verdict.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The New Mexico Ballet Company and the New Mexico Philharmonic will perform Aladdin and the Magic Lamp tomorrow at Popejoy Hall at 6 p.m. The show will combine live music with new choreography from the original tale, featuring stage details like rare gemstones.  The Paper.
  • Voices of Our Community brings together five ensembles for a choral and orchestral concert organized by the New Mexico Gay Men’s Chorus; it is set for Saturday, Mar. 28 at Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe and Sunday, Mar. 29 at National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque (tickets range from $20 to $75).  The Paper.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Public Education Department asked a judge to keep its court-ordered plan for vulnerable students, arguing it meets the mandate and dismissing calls for a new framework. Plaintiffs have about one month to reply as the court reviews details of the 190-page effort.  New Mexico In Depth
  • The University of New Mexico’s Office of Community Engagement, led by architecture professor Tim Castillo, connects researchers with community partners statewide to address challenges from rural development to wildfire recovery.   • UNM School of Law professor Warigia Bowman was honored as the first African American elected to the Albuquerque Public School Board during African American Day at the Legislature, part of Black History Month celebrations.   • Four UNM students will speak on a virtual panel (via live stream) hosted by UNM Political Science and the Muhammad Ali Center at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30 to discuss lessons from Muhammad Ali’s case that stemmed from a spring 2025 class project.  University of New Mexico

  • Fire restrictions will take effect today on public lands in Socorro and Catron counties as the BLM responds to dry conditions and the risk of human-caused fires — limiting campfires and smoking to designated areas.  KOAT
  • City Councilor Klarissa Peña is pushing for a working group to discuss removing César Chávez’s name from buildings, streets, and events (meetings planned at the National Hispanic Cultural Center), while Councilor Joaquin Baca proposed renaming Avenida César Chávez to Avenida Dolores Huerta as local businesses worry about address confusion.  KOAT
  • Electrical utilities in NM presented new wildfire prevention plans at a PRC hearing on Thursday. Providers detailed investments in fireproof poles, AI cameras (and pre-emptive power shutoffs) to reduce fire risks, noting that costs may be passed on to customers.  Source NM

  • Sandoval County commissioners approved a new contract with Texas-based IH2S that adds mandatory yearly cancer screenings for Hot Zone firefighters plus optional ultrasound tests for support staff, with mobile screenings beginning at Station 44.  Sandoval Signpost
