COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Trans Day of Visibility celebration is taking place today and was preceded on Sunday by local events organized by the SouthWest Solidarity Network. The Sunday activities included a rally at Robinson Park at 5 p.m., a march to Tiguex Park at 5:30 p.m., and a drag show starting at 6:30 p.m.—organizers said the events called for dignity, safety and justice for Trans people.  KOAT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcyclist died after a collision with a vehicle Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Wyoming Boulevard NE — Comanche Road as the Albuquerque Police Department’s fatal crash team was investigating the scene.  KOAT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • New research from UNM’s Anderson School of Management found that work-family conflict comes in three parts—time, strain, and behavior—and that treating them as one issue may hide key differences. The study, which reviewed data from 65 studies between 1995 and 2021, suggests managers could lower turnover by addressing each dimension separately.  University of New Mexico

  • The University of New Mexico will host alumna Lillian Gorman—an associate professor at the University of Arizona—on April 9 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Ortega Hall 335. She will speak about her new book that examines how language shapes identity among Spanish-speaking communities in Northern New Mexico.  University of New Mexico
  • During Sweet Week, which runs until April 6, 29 local merchants are offering discounts+promotions and classes to build interest for the upcoming Chocolate and Coffee Fest; the fest will be held April 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at ExpoNM + 300 San Pedro Dr. NE.  KOAT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of New Mexico holds shares in three companies—Flushed 04, Sludge, and Tefflawn Toilet—that remove toilets from buildings, leaving bathrooms with exposed sewage pipes and a strong gas smell; these investments provide funds for scholarships and internships despite protests from students and faculty. UNM President Garnett Stokes said the university will continue the investments as part of its fiduciary duty.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • After weeks of campus disruption spurred by a protest led by duck leader Quackses, UNM President Garnett Stokes reversed her decision to send the ducks to the Championship Golf Course—ordering their return to the Duck Pond on main campus—and students now await their homecoming.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • University of New Mexico Parking and Transportation Services has stopped issuing parking citations amid internal pressures and public mockery—its director said the agency was wrecked, and campus parking has become chaotic as drivers take advantage of the lack of enforcement. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham noted that this shift in policy has led to dangerous parking practices and growing auto gang activity on campus.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNM Athletics said its student athletes earned a record high average GPA of 0.02 last fall using a grading system that counted missed assignments and extra credit for simple tasks — a spokesperson said Athletics Director Joe Sport was still processing the math.
