- ➤ The Albuquerque Downtown Growers Market will open this Saturday (April 5) in Robinson Park and run from 8 a.m. to noon, offering local produce, prepared foods and artisan crafts. The market started in 1996 and will also feature yoga, music and workshops plus a Kids’ Market for young sellers. The Paper.

- ➤ Freddie Sedillo, a peer support worker, uses his personal history to speak with gang members involved in violent crimes — helping them break free from dangerous lifestyles. The Violence Intervention Program has met with about 1,300 high-risk individuals and delivered 895 custom notifications that kept 92% from further violence — city officials plan to expand the program with more funding. - ➤ Police are investigating an incident where Rio Rancho High School junior varsity baseball players reportedly urinated in a La Cueva High water jug and some Bears players drank from it, raising health concerns as Rio Rancho Public Schools turned the case over to police for possible criminal charges. - ➤ Albuquerque Public Schools is hosting the Metro Youth Art Exhibit at the Bernalillo Facio Professional Development Complex until April 23 — nearly every APS middle and high school is represented with art in ceramics, jewelry, watercolor and photography. - ➤ Researchers at the University of New Mexico’s Center for Applied Research and Analysis are conducting a 22-year trial of the Joyful Parenting Partnership home visiting program by CommonSpirit St. Joseph’s Children for 376 local families to see if regular weekly+bi-weekly visits improve child development and parenting attitudes. Early assessments show families receiving the service score higher than those not in the program, and researchers will continue tracking outcomes until 2037. University of New Mexico

- ➤ The city of Albuquerque's Solid Waste Management Department has partnered with Keep Albuquerque Beautiful to celebrate Earth Month by launching a Recycle Right advertising campaign that teaches proper recycling of items like pizza boxes, disposable coffee cups, and plastic bags. The city will host Albuquerque Cleanup Day on April 12—when residents can get free cleanup supplies—and a free e-waste drop-off event on April 22. KOAT
- ➤ Albuquerque and 16 other sites recorded their driest winter on record with only 0.12 inches of rain, increasing wildfire risks for local communities. More than 1,000 firefighters attended a wildfire academy in Arizona, and local officials say red flag warnings will grow as warm, dry weather continues—fire crews are getting ready for a busy season.
