COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At ExpoNM, thousands of residents visited the 15th annual Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Festival, the finale of Sweet Week that offered tasty sweets and strong coffee. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On April 1, UNM held a campus tree celebration for Earth Month with speakers, live music, a seed-swap, tree-shaped cookies and a live tree-planting demonstration. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Labor activist Dolores Huerta attended the Hands Off! protest on Saturday in Albuquerque and urged people to speak out and boycott companies that support cuts to government jobs. Huerta, who co-founded the United Farmworkers with César Chávez and is from Dawson, compared the protest to large rallies in the past — saying that ongoing protests are needed to protect democracy.  KUNM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • UNM will demolish the Motel 6 within the next two weeks after buying it for $5M and approved a $1.25M offer for a nearby 1-acre lot by Lobo Village.
