- ➤ Santa Fe Indian School mourned the deaths of head boys basketball coach Jason Abeyta, 47, and assistant athletic director Nathan Abeyta, 43, when a collision on Highway 84 near Abiquiu at 6 a.m. on April 18th killed them — with 19-year-old Isaac Madrid as a passenger. KKOB

- ➤ Jurors on Friday convicted an Albuquerque man of first-degree murder in the 2023 fatal shooting of Freddie Litton—aged 41—outside a northeast apartment building. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ On Friday, a 33-year-old inmate died at Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center after staff tried life-saving measures but could not revive him—BCSO and the Office of Professional Standards are investigating the incident. KOAT

- ➤ The annual Gathering of Nations Powwow will begin Thursday, April 24th at Expo New Mexico with the Miss Indian World Traditional Presentations starting at 7 p.m. at the Kiva Auditorium in the Albuquerque Convention Center. The event will draw thousands of visitors and Indigenous performers (over 3,000 dancers and singers from more than 500 tribes) and will crown Miss Indian World on April 26th. KOAT

- ➤ UNM will host a community listening session on the Next Generation Very Large Array from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at the PAIS Auditorium room 1100—locals can ask questions and learn about the radio telescope project that may boost research partnerships and STEM opportunities. - ➤ PNM announced that customers can apply for bill assistance at the John Marshal Health and Social Service Center on Thursday, April 24 to get help paying their electric bills. Customers must bring a government ID for everyone in the home—along with a past-due bill and proof of household income—to check eligibility for help. KOAT
- ➤ Christina Gill, a Moms Demand Action member who lost her son in a Santa Fe shooting in October 2021, spoke Wednesday morning outside Robert F. Kennedy Charter School near Albuquerque as U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich re-introduced the GOSAFE Act and BUMP Act to limit gas-operated semi-automatic firearms. Students and parents joined the event to urge lawmakers to pass the measures (which also restrict high-capacity magazines) aimed at reducing gun violence. Source NM
