- ➤ Police arrested a man after a fight north of Downtown Albuquerque ended with one man fatally stabbed on Friday — investigators are seeking witness tips — and the suspect remains in custody. Albuquerque Journal

- ➤ High school students from Rio Grande will display their artwork on homelessness at the Orpheum Community Hub on May 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.—the free exhibit, part of ABQ Artwalk, is meant to spark conversation about economic and residential inequality. Melissa Galetti, their teacher, said the project grew from a classroom discussion that led to a deeper look at stereotypes affecting marginalized people. The Paper.

- ➤ Students from UNM Anderson School of Management dominated the RNMKRS international role-play sales competition held April 10-11 by claiming the top three spots and securing 41 of the top 50 placements — they averaged a score of 9,074 out of 10,000 after completing many practice rounds. - ➤ A New Mexico district court judge ruled on Tuesday that the Public Education Department did not meet earlier court orders in the Yazzie/Martinez education equity case and must now make a plan by choosing an outside expert by July 1, filing a draft report by Oct. 1, and finalizing a plan by Nov. 3 — steps aimed to guide future PED and legislature decisions. Plaintiffs call the ruling a win because it works to improve education for Native American, low-income, English language, and disabled students. Source NM

- ➤ Mayor Tim Keller’s proposed $1.9 billion budget calls for nearly $287 million extra for the Albuquerque Police Department—raising its officer count to 1,100 from about 900—and sets plans for enhanced safety measures as a City Council committee meets at 5 p.m. Thursday with final approval expected in May. - ➤ Sherri Brueggemann retired in April after 18 years as head of Albuquerque’s Public Art Urban Enhancement Division, where she led projects that used art and technology to teach about the environment and build local partnerships — her work helped shape a vibrant public art scene in the city. - ➤ Rep. Melanie Stansbury said the Forest Service is not prepared for New Mexico’s wildfire season due to staffing cuts and unclear plans, as she raised her concerns during a House hearing near the Capitol. She noted that recent layoffs and a climate of fear among employees signal potential challenges ahead—local communities face a high risk of catastrophic fires. Source NM
- ➤ New Mexico lawmakers have created the Federal Infrastructure Funds and Stability Interim Committee to study potential federal funding cuts and plan ways to adjust if reductions occur.
