- ➤ The University of New Mexico will host Bike to UNM Day on Wednesday, May 6, offering riders welcome stations at Main Campus and North Campus and scheduled group rides at 8 a.m. The event provides free breakfast burritos to the first 50 participants along with coffee, giveaways and bike diagnostics. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Albuquerque native Julia Andreas will begin a two-week artist residency at Valles Caldera in early October, including a public program and donating artwork (she was the only local among five selected nationally). KUNM
- ➤ The Consulate of Mexico in Albuquerque will host the grand opening of Alebrijes: A Linares Family Tradition on Tuesday, May 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1610 4th St NW, offering free interactive art displays and remarks by community leaders. The Paper.
- ➤ Three dancers from UNM's spirit program earned spots with the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts after a rigorous NFL audition (spanning two weeks) tested their skills. Their milestone achievement highlights local talent and shows that New Mexico athletes can compete at the highest level. KOAT

- ➤ Plaintiffs in the Yazzie/Martinez education equity case have asked the court to allow them to work with state officials to revise the current plan using community expertise (a hearing is expected in the next couple of months). KUNM
- ➤ UNM announced three finalists for the top academic position; Avery August, Charles Martinez and interim provost Barbara Rodriguez will speak at Student Union Building forums (May 1, 6 and 7) as part of a search that concludes after a new president is selected. Albuquerque Journal

- ➤ Albuquerque taxpayers’ turf originally bought for an indoor football team is now repurposed at Isotopes Park while new turf funded by state tax dollars is used for the rebranded Chupacabras team at the Fairgrounds. KOAT

- ➤ After a wall collapsed Monday at Lindy’s Diner, city inspectors found asbestos in the piping and flooring (hazardous materials remain secured) while awaiting a second engineering review to decide whether the building can be rebuilt or must be demolished. Albuquerque Journal

- ➤ University of New Mexico dancer Paloma Lopez earned a spot on the Los Angeles Rams cheerleading team after a two-week audition where 82 finalists competed; she credits her UNM Lobo Dance Team experience for preparing her for the NFL and hopes to inspire local dancers. KOAT
