  • Rail Yards Market opened on Sunday for the season after hosting an early Cinco de Mayo celebration with live mariachi music and local vendors selling crafts, sweets and fresh produce. Food trucks served customers and SNAP recipients enjoyed a buy one, get one free deal while the market will operate every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University art museum has shown art collections since 1962 to teach students and faculty. Its 'High Five Hall of Fame: Highlights from the UNMAM Collection' opened April 18 and will close May 17—offering a look at how photography and new media still keep art alive.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Albuquerque BioPark is building a new facility for endangered wolves near the botanic gardens — neighbors may hear their howls this winter.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Albuquerque's urban wildlife — including squirrels, rabbits and turtles — becomes more active as warm weather arrives, USDA says, though habitat fragmentation from roads, railways and development makes food and water harder to reach, IFAW warns. The ABQ Backyard Refuge Program invites residents to create safe spaces for wildlife by planting native species and providing water — efforts that experts say may reduce injuries from traffic — as summer continues.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

HEALTH NEWS

  • A measles outbreak has infected over 900 people across 29 states, with 13% of patients—primarily under 19—hospitalized because 96% were not vaccinated or have unknown vaccine status. In New Mexico, 67 cases have been reported—47 in unvaccinated individuals—and vaccines are available at local public health offices.  KOAT
