- ➤ Indigenous people are holding prayer walks, marches and self-defense classes this week to demand more law enforcement help with about 4,300 open FBI cases of missing and murdered persons—activists stress that better cooperation and funding are needed to keep their communities safe. KOAT

- ➤ Hanmin Kim, a newly graduated UNM business student, began selling Korean rice balls on campus when an Instagram video sent his orders past 150 a week. Now Albuquerque residents can buy his gimbap—flavors include spicy mayo tuna and bulgogi beef—from his new stall at Kim's Market. KOAT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Mexico’s early snowmelt left the upper Rio Grande with only 12% of its normal water supply—weather experts warn that dry, hot, and windy conditions will create a dangerous fire season and may trigger spring flooding near burn areas. Forecasts show that while later storms might bring rain, the near-term outlook remains bleak. Sandoval Signpost
- ➤ Severe storms can bring lightning, large hail, strong winds and tornadoes to Albuquerque; residents should go indoors and stay away from windows until they have not heard thunder for 30 minutes. The National Weather Service recommends taking shelter in a sturdy building or hard-topped car and avoiding plumbing or electrical appliances during the storm. KOAT

- ➤ Sandoval County has started its public review of the 2025 Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which began May 5 and will continue until May 19—this update to the 2012 plan was prepared with input from community partners to improve wildfire safety. Sandoval Signpost
- ➤ Albuquerque lawmakers opened new legislative office space at CNM Westside on Saturday to improve contact with residents and support a shift toward a professional, paid Legislature. Over 20 offices have been set up since late last year thanks to a state budget provision—more openings are expected soon. Source NM
