  • Two Albuquerque men calling themselves real-life superheroes distribute food, water and hygiene supplies to homeless people while urging residents to join local government meetings for policy change.   • Albuquerque's Route 66 Visitor Center hosts a free Centennial Concert Series every Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. through May 30. Local alumni artists will play varied tunes, and food trucks + Tractor Brewing will serve refreshments at the outdoor amphitheater.  KOAT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A UNM Anderson School of Management team placed first overall in the Chicago Quantitative Alliance Investment Challenge. David Dávila and Samuel Landis, members of the Lobo Investment Club, used a momentum-based strategy that earned them $3,000 in prize money and a 29.06% return.  University of New Mexico
  • Dava Manes will walk the UNM stage this spring to earn her bachelor's in sociology after balancing parenting, a TikTok career and studies (she was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society), inspiring others to believe education has no expiration date.  University of New Mexico
  • Registration is open for Rio Rancho Public Schools' Nexus Summer Camp, where 6th to 8th graders can explore STEM, robotics, art, and athletics at Mountain View Middle School from 1 to 6 p.m. June 1-5, with a fee of $80 per student + limited spots available.  KOAT

  • The City of Albuquerque's Municipal Department is installing new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at Jackson Middle School—work has begun—and at Jimmy Carter and McKinley middle schools as crews become available. The installations, part of the Stop! For Everyone campaign, will be completed by the end of May.  KOAT
  • At a Tuesday town hall in Socorro, residents opposed a proposal from Green Data to build a large data center on 10,000 acres in partnership with New Mexico Tech, citing concerns over water use and community impact — university officials said a decision would be discussed May 19.  Source NM

  • The Campground at Winrock food truck park is now open at Winrock Town Center off Louisiana Boulevard and I-40 in northeast Albuquerque. Officials say it is open daily and will add more vendors, seating and programming, with a grand opening celebration planned this weekend.  KOAT
