COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Albuquerque nonprofit The Grief Center received a $60,000 donation on May 13 from Franklin E. Wilson to install a 47.75 kW solar array by SunState+, Unirac, and Greentech Renewables. The system is expected to save over $11,000 a year, letting the center use more funds for grief support. The Paper.

- ➤ Emily Notsinneh, a nontraditional Albuquerque student and homeschooling mom, is attending UNM where she finds support among Native students and plans a master's in creative writing at IAIA in Santa Fe. She earned her associate's degree from CNM as a teen and is driven to inspire Native voices through education. University of New Mexico
- ➤ Eric Link visited campus Wednesday to pledge a place-based leadership approach as the final presidential candidate at UNM — regents will decide in a closed session Friday on his successor as President Garnett Stokes retires. Albuquerque Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Albuquerque water officials reported the city stopped drawing Rio Grande water on April 24 and now rely entirely on groundwater ahead of summer heat. They urged residents to conserve water by following new lawn watering rules (two days per week in April–May, three days per week in June–August). The Paper.
- ➤ Officials announced Tuesday that the Environment Department and the Air Force reached a verbal agreement to speed up PFAS cleanup near Cannon Air Force Base in Curry County. The plan enables NMED to lead water testing at local dairies while the Air Force supplies funding (including $74 million already spent). KOAT

- ➤ Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller announced a proposed Gateway Safe Outdoor Space near Gateway West to offer showers, electricity + tent spots for 15 to 50 people once funding is approved; the site is under construction to ease shelter congestion on the West Side. Albuquerque Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State health officials said today that the Sin Nombre hantavirus, carried by local rodents, does not spread from person to person while the Andes virus on a recent cruise ship outbreak claimed three lives outside the state. No New Mexicans were aboard the ship, so residents face little risk. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ NMDOH officials in Santa Fe clarified that the Sin Nombre hantavirus spreads through contact with rodent droppings and does not transmit between people — unlike the Andes strain linked to cruise ship cases. Residents are advised to air out enclosed spaces to reduce infection risks. KOAT
