GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southern New Mexico's U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez reintroduced his updated Humane Accountability Act 2.0 on Thursday during a news conference with community groups. • Congressman Gabe Vasquez criticized GOP proposals to cut SNAP benefits — he warned that the changes could force states to reduce food assistance or pull funds from local budgets and harm New Mexicans and the farmers who supply the program. He argued that these moves break a longtime bipartisan support for strong anti-hunger measures.  Sandoval Signpost
  • Tallgrass Energy Partners changed its plan for a pipeline running through the Navajo Nation that was once touted for carrying hydrogen—now the pipeline will carry natural gas, leaving local leaders and residents surprised by the shift. Critics say the new plan undermines the environmental benefits that were originally promised and could restart contentious discussions about local energy development.  Source NM

  • The New Mexico Department of Health confirmed the first measles cases in Sandoval County, reporting an adult with an unknown vaccination status and an unvaccinated child under 4. Health officials said residents may have been exposed at a Rio Rancho emergency clinic, Trader Joe's in Albuquerque and a Cedar Crest BBQ between April 30 and May 10 — and urged everyone to check their vaccination records.  KOAT
