CULTURE NEWS

  • Popejoy Presents offers half price subscriptions for the 2026–2027 season to UNM staff and faculty. The Broadway and Ovation Series packages provide free ticket exchanges — discounts apply to the first two subscriptions available online or by calling the UNM Ticket Office.  University of New Mexico
  • The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad postponed its Memorial Day reopening to June 9—due to severe drought and wildfire risk that could spark fire in the region. Ticket holders were notified and can request refunds or reschedule their trips later.  Albuquerque Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a government report at Central New Mexico Community College showed New Mexico had higher poverty and lower wages than its neighbors. Lawmakers plan to track how universal childcare investments will spur job growth & boost workforce participation.  Source NM

  • The UNM faculty union said the upcoming 13.1% health insurance premium hike will cut into raises for many next school year, with nearly a third of full-time faculty set to earn less as they push for a policy matching state workers’ 80/20 insurance cost split.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Danielle Cummings, a UNM School of Medicine student who overcame a 25-foot rock-climbing fall and multiple surgeries, now wins paratriathlon silver medals internationally and will graduate in May while preparing for an Emergency Medicine residency at UNM — her advocacy for accessible prosthetic care inspires many.  University of New Mexico

  • A backdoor front is bringing moisture to eastern New Mexico, leading to scattered thunderstorms with the threat of severe storms, including damaging hail & gusty winds.
