ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Albuquerque Fire Rescue contained a small bosque fire near Alcalde Place and Tingley Drive last Thursday afternoon as nine units responded at 5:10 p.m. to control the blaze burning about one-fourth of an acre; firefighters had it contained by 7:50 p.m. with no injuries, and the cause is under investigation. - ➤ On May 20, the National Trust for Historic Preservation added New Mexico’s Greater Chaco Cultural Landscape to America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. The announcement warns that fragmented management and policy shifts put this ancestral homeland at risk and urges residents to contact their congressional representatives to support stronger protections — ensuring coordinated stewardship. - ➤ UNM students Adrienne Garcia (a sophomore in chemical engineering with a bioengineering focus) and Richard Justice (a junior in biochemistry) earned Goldwater Scholarships as part of the 2026 class. Garcia will attend MIT’s Summer Research Program in Boston this summer. University of New Mexico

- ➤ Rio Grande High School celebrated 291 seniors with improved graduation rates (up nearly 20% over three years) during Wednesday’s ceremony at Tingley Coliseum.
