  • New Mexicans paid tribute on Memorial Day Monday, May 25 during a parade along Gibson Blvd that ended at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial where residents honored fallen soldiers.  Albuquerque Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The James and Gail Ellis School of Business Leadership is honored for its Rural Student Connectivity Project that bridges a technology gap in rural communities with support from a $1.1 million federal grant — it will be recognized at a ceremony on June 5 at Q Station.  University of New Mexico

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers warn that local insect populations are sharply decreasing because of heat, drought, and pesticides in New Mexico, affecting butterflies, grasshoppers + food crops that rely on them. Experts advise planting native species and reducing pesticide use to help protect the delicate ecosystem.  Albuquerque Journal
  • A wildfire in the Capitan Mountains has expanded to 25,000 acres and is 43% contained, officials said. The fire has triggered evacuations and closed roads from NM 246 to the South Base Trail System, with crews using ground and aerial tactics to battle it.  KUNM
