The report also revealed funding losses for local universities and warned that challenges such as fire season and reduced business revenue could further strain state budgets—prompting lawmakers to seek more flexibility in future spending. - ➤ On Tuesday, New Mexico lawmakers held a hearing to investigate further reforms for the troubled CYFD after the suicide of a 16-year-old foster child and another reported case raised concerns—House Bill 5 created an Office of the Child Advocate using a $650,000 appropriation from the Department of Justice, and a committee will meet before Sept. 1 to recommend candidates.
