CRIME NEWS

  • New Mexico State Police and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting incident involving two vehicles that resulted in a car crash (near Central Avenue Southeast and Tramway Boulevard SE in northeast Albuquerque) on Saturday (with eastbound ramps at Tramway Boulevard SE and Interstate 40 closed) and reported no outstanding suspects.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Guild Cinema held a premiere for the docuseries Lowrider Lifestyle on May 28, showcasing the lowrider culture that began in the 1940s and the art of custom paint jobs and hydraulic car hops—hosts Bryant Johnson and Candice Neu highlighted how the community treats its members like family. The 2025 Lowrider SuperShow is happening today at the Albuquerque Convention Center and will feature competitions and prizes based on era and customization.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ADVANCE at UNM and the Faculty Research Development Office are hosting a series of online workshops that help faculty learn about new research funding rules and opportunities, including a session with Explora Science Center and updates on National Science Foundation policies.   • On Saturday, a thick haze of smoke from south of the border blanketed Albuquerque and much of the Rio Grande Valley.  Albuquerque Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report from the New Mexico Department of Health shows that over 30,000 people experienced homelessness between 2019 and 2023 using a new method that combined hospital records with other homelessness indicators (Bernalillo County reported over 18,000 cases), a figure that exceeds federal estimates.  KOAT
