COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Legends Never Die tour stopped at the Indian Motorcycle dealership on Alameda Boulevard where 57 riders celebrated Route-66's 100th anniversary and the brand's 125th by raising funds for Folds of Honor scholarships; the event highlighted strong local community support.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new Route 66 Remixed Tour offers Albuquerque a ride blending historic landmarks, local art and augmented reality along Old Town and Central Avenue. The tour runs through Oct. 31.  KOAT
  • The Live @ Winrock series kicked off last Friday and will bring free outdoor music, local vendors, and community events every Friday until July 24 at Sunward Amphitheater (2100 Louisiana NE). The series will restart from Sept. 11 to Oct. 9.  Albuquerque Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The New Mexico Activities Association Board of Directors is set to vote on a proposal granting high school athletes one free transfer starting in 2026–27. The new rule will update eligibility guidelines that may affect local programs and impose a $5,000 fine for recruiting violations.  Albuquerque Journal
  • State officials are urging New Mexico schools to adopt a statewide plan to regulate AI use in classrooms to address concerns about data privacy (and cheating) raised during a legislative meeting in Raton. The recommendations aim to offer clear guidance on ethical, personalized learning.  Albuquerque Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNM's Habtom Samuel won Friday's 5K semifinal at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville and now qualifies for the Outdoor Championships in Eugene, where he will race in the 5K and 10K events with the Lobos.  Albuquerque Journal
  • UNM junior sprinter Taniya Looney set a school record by running 10.85 seconds in the 100 meter dash on Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas, becoming the first Lobo woman to qualify for NCAA championships since the 1980s. She also reached the 200 semifinals as UNM heads to Hayward Field on June 10.  Albuquerque Journal
  • The Journal has named the 2026 All-Metro softball first team, featuring 12 high school players from Albuquerque High, Los Lunas, and Cleveland who impressed with strong batting and pitching. The list includes Zoë Mangrum of St. Pius—who hit .722 with 73 RBIs.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Albuquerque’s Holly Holm lost a 10-round WBA lightweight title fight against Stephanie Han on May 30 at El Paso County Coliseum — her title hopes were put in doubt after a close majority decision.  Albuquerque Journal
  • New Mexico United earned a valuable point with a 0-0 draw in Hartford on Saturday, marking their best result on a long road trip. Manager Dennis Sanchez said the match gave the team a boost as they prepare to face Phoenix Rising FC on June 6.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Thursday's NMAA board meeting will discuss changes for local high school sports, including using MaxPreps ranking to seed state playoffs and eliminating mandatory playoff games — some changes may start next season while others could be tested in 2027-28.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Volcano Vista basketball star David Lunn (a three-time state champion) announced on Saturday he will transfer to Boston’s CATS Academy for his senior season to prepare for college and boost his profile after a successful run with his local team.  Albuquerque Journal
