- ➤ On May 20, the UNM Board of Regents approved a $45 fee increase for next semester and a further $60 two years later to help close a $15 million funding gap for athletics — the new fees aim to better support underfunded sports and athlete mental health while some students worry about the financial impact on marginalized groups. - ➤ New Mexico may adopt new rules for cleaner fuels next year that would take effect in 2026 — the standards would cover fuels like gasoline and electricity if the Environment Department gives its approval. Albuquerque Journal

- ➤ City officials have installed 83 heavy meridian barriers in downtown as part of a $900,000 investment to keep Central pedestrian areas safe on weekend nights—each barrier weighs more than 700 pounds and is difficult to move. They said the barriers will aid police patrols by preventing cars from entering the area and will remain in place permanently. KOAT
- ➤ Albuquerque City Council and the mayor's office signed legislation on Wednesday that will use $4.5M from an opioid settlement to fund local addiction recovery projects. The funds will support programs to help residents overcome opioid addiction. Albuquerque Journal
