GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Albuquerque is awarding funds to build affordable housing in two areas — the Northeast corner of 90th Street and San Ygnacio SW and the Barelas neighborhood. Developers must submit proposals by July 8 — the deadline to use city-owned land for townhomes or condos, said Mayor Tim Keller and Health, Housing and Homelessness Deputy Director Joseph Montoya. - ➤ Corrales Mayor Jim Fahey said climate change makes it urgent for the village to plan its water future since residents, farms, and businesses now rely on water wells and a small septic system. Local leaders are considering obtaining water rights—steps that may help protect local agriculture and firefighting efforts. Sandoval Signpost
- ➤ Albuquerque city councilors will discuss a proposed Renter’s Bill of Rights tonight to address unclear leases, poor housing conditions, and limited tenant protections. The ordinance would require plain language in rental applications, full fee disclosures, rental registration, and relocation assistance — a measure that also asks for input from landlords on potential rent impacts. KOAT
- ➤ A state district court ruled today that UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center breached legal bargaining rights by not negotiating a planned reduction in force and by failing to provide key employment information — Judge Elaine Lujan upheld findings from the Public Employee Labor Relations Board.
