- ➤ A new study by the University of New Mexico shows that Bernalillo County’s Metropolitan Detention Center jail population grew by 30% from 2019 to 2024—reaching its highest level since July 2014. Researchers said more felony bookings, longer stays and repeat bookings are behind the rise, and the jail was at about 80% capacity as of May. University of New Mexico

- ➤ Albuquerque City has funded three full-time positions in the Open Space program to care for the Rio Grande bosque—staff will maintain trails, restore habitats, and help prevent fires in this 16-mile, 4,000-acre space that benefits our community. The Paper.
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that Texas parties lacked standing to challenge a permit for nuclear waste storage; experts said state laws keep New Mexico safe from a similar project as Holtec International seeks to build a 40-year facility in a rural area. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said she will fight to block the site — critics point to poor market conditions and strict state rules that limit such projects. Source NM
