COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The local chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America gathered at Kirtland AFB yesterday to pack care packages for U.S. troops overseas ahead of the 4th of July — Commander Michael Power said the event showed strong local support for our military community.  KOAT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A bosque fire broke out Saturday in Los Lunas, forcing evacuations in the Carson Park area and prompting fire crews to use the Daniel Fernandez Recreation Center as a staging area—structures near the Los Lunas bridge on the west side of the Rio Grande are at risk.  KOAT
  • Fire crews responded to a bosque fire that ignited Saturday morning near Alameda Boulevard—Rio Grande Boulevard NW in northwest Albuquerque, and drivers were asked to avoid the area while Bernalillo County Fire and Albuquerque Fire Rescue managed the scene.  KOAT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House Memorial 2 set up a statewide group to guide how schools use generative AI, and Trey Smith said the group met with school leaders, legislators and technology experts to address the fast-changing tools—efforts that may shape classroom teaching. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Founded in 1925, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District celebrates its 100th anniversary as it manages water resources, flood control, and irrigation—serving 11,000 irrigators, six pueblos, and over 100,000 parcels in the valley. It will host public events and educational programs throughout this year to mark the milestone and address ongoing water challenges.  Sandoval Signpost
  • State Rep. Kathleen Cates opened her new legislative office at the CNM Workforce Training Center on June 18, marking the first district office in New Mexico since 1912. The office will offer District 44 residents private meeting spaces and set hours—Monday noon to 6 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment.  Sandoval Signpost
  • During a roundtable discussion with hospital heads, a nursing home director, nonprofit leaders and a congressman, Carlos Zuniga warned that the Senate's budget proposal—if it includes Medicaid cuts—may force New Mexico hospitals to close.  Albuquerque Journal
