ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • I-25 was closed south of Albuquerque after a semi-truck rolled over near Bobby Foster Road — no injuries were reported.  KOAT

CRIME NEWS

  • A former Albuquerque Police Department officer pleaded guilty in federal court to a longstanding conspiracy with a local attorney and paralegal — he was terminated in April for policy violations amid an ongoing DWI investigation by the FBI.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Casa San Ysidro in Corrales, dating back to 1875, has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the New Mexico Cultural Properties Restoration Fund to replace the roofs on its north and west wings—this maximum grant is part of nearly $1.2 million given to eight projects, and work will be completed within two years.  Sandoval Signpost

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Water managers in the Middle Rio Grande Valley said on June 14 that the only storage available—6,500 acre-feet of San Juan & Chama water—is expected to run dry by the end of June, which would force farmers to alter planting methods. They have activated rotational irrigation scheduling & urged adjustments to weather-reliant production as summer storms remain uncertain.  Sandoval Signpost

  • The Village of Corrales is moving forward on two grant projects that will boost public safety and parks. One grant funds plans for Salce Park—with exercise trails, seating areas with mountain views, designated horse parking, and a 2.6-acre pond as part of drainage management—while a federal Safe Streets for All initiative will identify safety improvements using existing Village property.  Sandoval Signpost
  • Sen. Martin Heinrich hosted a roundtable in Albuquerque on Friday to discuss the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act that cut Medicaid funding and put 40% of New Mexicans at risk of losing care—experts warned this could drive more patients to emergency rooms and force hospital closures. He said he could not vote for a bill that would strip essential healthcare from many—stressing that both urban and rural communities would suffer.  Sandoval Signpost
  • Fires in Los Lunas burned 260 acres, damaged over 50 buildings, and forced about 1,300 people to evacuate as officials search for an arsonist after arresting a man in Albuquerque. A federal judge stopped rules linking state funds to immigration enforcement, and local cannabis shops will face higher taxes from next month—forcing some to cut profits.  KUNM
