- ➤ Mayor Tim Keller and local boxing fans attended the reopening of the historic gym at 400 San Jose Ave. SW on Saturday. The renovated center now has modern boxing rings and extra space for training (Matthew 'Diamond Boy' Griego and Johnny Tabia once trained there) and is expected to inspire the next generation of champions. - ➤ First responders competed in tug-of-war and other contests during the Battle of the Badges + Heroes for Hope event outside the Walmart Supercenter at 3500 Coors Blvd yesterday to raise funds for UNM Children's Hospital. Organizers said the campaign will run until July 6 and reached half of their $20,000 goal, + with community donations continuing to support local children. KOAT
- ➤ Albuquerque Fire Rescue urges residents to follow fireworks safety tips for the upcoming 4th of July as dry conditions boost fire risks. The department will patrol for illegal fireworks and advises keeping water on hand—last year it handled 140 outside fires and four structure fires. KOAT

- ➤ New Mexico will mark the Fourth of July on Friday, July 4 with events statewide — Albuquerque will host a concert with fireworks at Balloon Fiesta Park while parades, runs, and music shows take place in Los Lunas, Rio Rancho, Las Cruces, and other towns. KOAT
- ➤ The Duke City Comic Con is underway at the Albuquerque Convention Center, drawing thousands of fans for two days of cosplay & celebrity panels and interactive displays. The event will wrap up today with visitors enjoying video games & movies. KOAT

- ➤ The University of New Mexico has launched a national search for its next controller after Norma Allen announced her retirement — candidates must submit a CV and cover letter by Aug. 4. - ➤ Albuquerque has issued new rules for fiber optic installations, requiring companies to give clear written notice, provide bilingual materials, use proper identification, limit work hours and meet strict deadlines for fixing issues—residents reported past work had damaged water lines and yards and want city inspectors to monitor the process closely.
