CRIME NEWS

  • A man allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend and gunned down his friend in Southeast Albuquerque in June—his actions reportedly driven by jealousy over a suspected affair.  Albuquerque Journal
  • On June 13, Dominic Nez said his family took his sister Dominique 'Molly' off life support after she was beaten on the Navajo Nation and suffered bruises and cuts—investigators and the FBI are reviewing social media and witness accounts to learn what happened before she was brought to UNM Hospital.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • At New Mexico Motorfest 2025, a decorated 1985 Cutlass Supreme called El Milagro was shown by owner Jose Graciano to honor donor Raquel Colucci, whose lungs saved his life after a long hospital stay in 2021. He displayed the car—adorned with Colucci’s picture and a butterfly above the grill—to share the impact of organ donation with the community.  KOAT
  • Monte Vista Christian Church has created a safe space for all—where everyone is accepted—said senior minister Dawn Rosignol as members from diverse backgrounds find renewed hope and belonging.  KOAT

  • City officials announced a $1.7 million patio project at Gateway Center built for women in the Housing and Treatment Navigation Center. The patio will offer a welcoming outdoor space for unhoused residents—officials did not specify when it will be ready.  Albuquerque Journal

  • Wells Fargo Tower in Albuquerque is moving closer to becoming affordable housing, giving new life to a key part of the skyline. Project plans are advancing and more details will be shared as they become available—official sources reported.  Albuquerque Journal

  • Hannah Mares, an 18-year-old Bernalillo High School graduate with Down syndrome, has cheered since sixth grade and now hopes to become the first Lobo cheerleader at the University of New Mexico. Her family worried she might not be accepted (a common concern among parents), but her team has shown she truly belongs.  KOAT
  • Miranda Stewart Hess Jr., a 15-year-old wrestler from New Mexico, was recently inducted into the North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame—she is now the youngest and first female wrestler from the United States to earn this honor after winning several state and national titles.  KOAT
