CRIME NEWS

  • An Albuquerque police officer shot and injured a man on the 2100 block of South Branch Drive on Friday afternoon in southwest Albuquerque—no officers were hurt and police are investigating the events that led to the incident.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Corey Roybal has been named director of Adult Protective Services after years of serving New Mexico’s victims—he began his career on the Crime Victims Reparation Commission and later advanced within APS. Roybal plans to strengthen the program by expanding its proactive focus on behavioral health and substance use disorders to better serve vulnerable residents.  Source NM
  • Albuquerque International Sunport has seen 147 runway incursions since 2001 and is one of 74 airports flagged by the FAA for safety improvements. After a spike in 2020 the airport upgraded its signage and markings—steps that reduced incidents—and officials are reviewing additional runway redesigns as pilots note its confusing layout.  KOAT
  • The New Mexico Legislature session began on Jan. 21 and ended on March 22 — lawmakers had until Feb. 20 to introduce bills and the governor had until April 11 to sign final bills — while Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham urged that teachers receive higher pay.  Albuquerque Journal
