- ➤ Sandoval County detectives have identified remains found in the Santa Fe National Forest near Cuba in May as Kimo Mahi — also known as Keeble Wofford — who disappeared in September after leaving Pueblo in a 1976 white Cadillac on a business trip to Albuquerque and now ask anyone with useful information to come forward. - ➤ A second prominent Albuquerque defense attorney pleaded guilty to a federal extortion charge—he paid an Albuquerque policeman in 2023 to help get a client’s drunken driving case—adding another layer to the ongoing police corruption investigation. Albuquerque Journal

- ➤ New Mexico’s judicial branch has asked lawmakers to consider creating a state court marshals service after a rise in threats against judges and court staff — including violent text messages and dangerous follow-ups. Officials plan to boost security at several courthouses with better technology and specialized officers while discussions continue with other states that have similar services. Source NM
- ➤ Ruidoso residents began rebuilding after Tuesday's flash flood killed 3 and damaged up to 50 homes as emergency crews conducted swift water rescues and the governor requested a disaster declaration. Federal officials plan further oversight at WIPP amid aging infrastructure issues in Carlsbad — and New Mexico’s highest court issued a new rule on Wednesday morning to shorten criminal case resolution times in Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos counties. - ➤ Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo proposed moving one paramedic from each rescue truck to fire engines to speed up care, but the city council and firefighters’ union say this change could risk patient care—seven of nine councilors passed a resolution to keep two paramedics on each truck. The legal dispute is now in court and may reach the New Mexico Supreme Court as the battle over staffing power continues. KOAT
