  • 2024 Miss New Mexico USA and a local nonprofit held a makeover event for children in foster care that boosted young participants' confidence. An 11-month-old girl in a green dress was overwhelmed by pink makeup—her purple headband barely visible—making her feel extra special.  Albuquerque Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artist Ryan Saavedra and community members are painting a mural on the exterior of the Wheels Museum at 1100 2nd Street SW to honor victims of gun violence and celebrate Albuquerque history. Saavedra said the project, which began in May, will include a dedicated section for lost loved ones — a tribute to healing and remembrance.  KOAT
  • Today at ExpoNM, Toon Fusion in Albuquerque showcased anime with popular voice actors, hundreds of vendors, panels, and cosplay contests. The Cruisin' for a Bruisin' esports tournament, hosted by Albuquerque Public Schools and the city, continues today from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—participants compete in Super Smash Brothers and Street Fighter Six for prizes while offering free play for those who do not wish to compete.  KOAT
  • Franz Joachim, the CEO of New Mexico PBS, has been chosen by the New Mexico Broadcasters Association as the 2025 recipient of the Bill Anderson North Star in Broadcasting Award; he will be formally honored at the NMBA Afternoon of Broadcast Celebration and Recognition on Friday, July 18. This award recognizes his 45-year career in public media and his work in modernizing broadcasting in our state.  University of New Mexico
