EDUCATION NEWS

  • RioTECH, the new campus for trades education by Rio Rancho Public Schools, hosted a community night Wednesday and will open next week with 140 students and dual enrollment classes with Central New Mexico Community College. Principal Kristopher Johnson said the remodeled building saved about 20 to 30 million dollars and is set to help ease the state’s shortage of skilled tradespeople — the project repurposed a former call center.  Sandoval Signpost
  • UNM instructors will join the Get Set Reset virtual conference on Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.—organized by the Center for Teaching and Learning to offer strategies on inclusive teaching, community building and course design for the upcoming academic year. Tailored sessions for teaching assistants and live captioning will also be provided.  University of New Mexico
  • UNM launched Project MESA to train bilingual and culturally responsive speech-language pathologists for early childhood care, a five-year grant-funded program that supports four scholars with tuition aid, clinical rotations, and mentorship. The program will offer a free summer clinic led by Mary Hartley CCC-SLP—providing vital services to local families with children who have autism or other developmental delays.  University of New Mexico

  • New Mexico in Focus examined immigration enforcement and advocacy in the state, featuring interviews with detainees at Cibola County Correctional Center and discussions with local officials and immigrant advocates—while the show aired on July 25 at 7 p.m. on NMPBS 5.1 and again on July 27 at 7 a.m.  University of New Mexico

  • The Food and Drug Administration issued a recall for Member’s Mark freeze-dried fruit variety packs sold at Sam’s Club in New Mexico after tests found listeria contamination—products sold from July 1 until July 25 and no illnesses were reported.  KOAT
