- ➤ Bernalillo Police held their National Night Out event at Rotary Park yesterday—despite a deadly shooting on July 29 that killed a 27-year-old man and hurt another. Police Chief Chris Stoyell said the event was meant to build trust between police and residents. Sandoval Signpost

- ➤ Levi Platero, a well-known local blues guitarist, said he got his first paying gig at 13 at the Gathering of Nations and has been playing guitar since he was 9—he now creates blues rock influenced by Hendrix and British blues. - ➤ The Center for High Technology Materials at UNM added two new electron beam lithography systems using a nearly $2 million NSF MRI grant—these tools are a first for the university and offer a unique research capability. - ➤ Warehouse 505, an Albuquerque nonprofit offering free after-school programs for youth, is adding new revenue sources — such as textile printing, a recording studio, and youth entrepreneurship classes — to offset federal education cuts as school violence rises and community leaders work to keep kids safe. - ➤ Researchers at the University of New Mexico are preparing to launch a phase 1 clinical trial for an Alzheimer’s vaccine next year—after receiving $1 million from the Alzheimer’s Association on August 5.
