  • Siham Al Shanti, a Ph.D. candidate in civil engineering, was named an Outstanding Reviewer of 2024 by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).   • New Mexico’s state investment accounts have reached a record $64 billion, sparking debate over fund distribution while officials defend steady support for education and early childhood programs. Gov. Lujan Grisham declared a crime emergency in Española—authorizing National Guard standby and $750,000 in emergency funds—to help curb rising crime and drug overdoses, and Albuquerque Public Schools introduced clear bag and cashless policies at athletic events to boost safety.  KUNM
  • Since 2021, the nonprofit New Mexico Safety Over Profit has raised over $1.2 million mostly from personal injury law firms and the Trial Lawyers Association—over 93% of its funds—while it faced a lawsuit from the state Ethics Commission to reveal its donors.
