COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Mexico State Fair has begun a park-and-ride service to help visitors avoid parking hassles by providing buses from Coronado Center on weekends. On Saturdays buses run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with returns until midnight, while today buses on Sunday run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.—tickets are sold at the fair box office and online.  KOAT
  • On Saturday, a 'mutt strutt' event at Double Eagle Airport got dogs and owners moving for a three-mile run. Ian Minervini, who ran with his wife and three dogs, said the event helped both shy and outgoing pets socializing—proceeds supported the city Animal Welfare Department and the Experimental Aircraft Association.  KOAT

CRIME NEWS

  • Police have opened an investigation after a one-month-old child died Saturday morning on the 7600 block of Briar Ridge Avenue NW when Albuquerque Fire Rescue unsuccessfully attempted to revive the infant—detectives are examining the scene.  KOAT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNM’s Duck Pond reopened today during a campus celebration that featured speakers, duck-shaped cookies and commemorative buttons though no live ducks were seen, with small turtles returning naturally. The renovation improved water quality, safety and accessible paths while new benches will be installed by the end of September — ensuring the historic pond remains a cherished campus landmark.  University of New Mexico
