  • Albuquerque police said a person was shot Sunday afternoon on Chico Road NE between Louisiana and Pennsylvania—the victim was taken to a hospital where they remain in stable condition.  KOAT

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sept. 3, students gathered at the re-opened UNM Duck Pond as the board of administration highlighted improvements such as modern biofilters for water quality and widened perimeters for better accessibility—honoring indigenous history and Garret Eckbo’s design legacy. UNM pins and duck-shaped sugar cookies were given away, and officials said wild ducks are expected to return naturally in time.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • The University of New Mexico Health Science Campus is hosting an exhibit of artwork by Garfield Middle School Circle Keepers who mentor peers with restorative practice—suspensions dropped 83% over three years, and the exhibit will run until the end of September at the Domininci Center West Wing.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

  • New Mexico is seeing a funding crunch for road repairs as more fuel-efficient vehicles lower gas tax revenue — state officials warn that delays in future projects may occur.  Albuquerque Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sept 7, the Lobos beat the NMSU Aggies 4-0 in a soccer match — Head Coach Heather Dyche earned her 102nd win and Albuquerque native Savanah Sanchez scored twice. The Lobos remain undefeated with four wins and two ties — they will play the UCSB Gauchos on Sept 11.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • Former Lobo Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who rushed for 1,190 yards and 17 touchdowns at UNM in 2023, was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the seventh round and made an 82-yard NFL debut against the New York Giants.   • Heather Dyche's UNM Lobos women's soccer team, off to one of its best starts with a 3-0-2 record — a record setting season — will host the NM State Aggies, who have just one win so far, in a rivalry match scheduled for next Sunday.  Albuquerque Journal
  • On September 6, the University of New Mexico Lobos defeated Idaho State 32—22 as running backs Scottre Humphrey, D.J. McKinney, and Damon Bankston powered the win, with Humphrey recording 141 yards and two touchdowns in front of 17,639 fans. Head Coach Jason Eck earned his first win as coach, and the team will travel Friday to Pasadena to face UCLA.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
