BUSINESS NEWS

  • Marble Brewery inked a deal today to brew and distribute Bosque Brewing’s flagship beers statewide while Bosque works to fix wastewater issues in Bernalillo—this partnership is set to keep local jobs and production stable with roughly 8,000 barrels remaining in New Mexico.  The Paper.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arrested Development is coming to town as filming for Bands of Enchantment Season 5 will take place at the KiMo Theater from September 17 to 19, with the show promoting local music talent. The event will wrap up with a free block party on Central on September 20—featuring local performers like Red Light Cameras and other rising acts.  The Paper.
  • 12 Step Rebels will host a vinyl release and 25th anniversary party on September 13 at 8 p.m. at the Launchpad on Central SW—featuring fellow acts Kats of Horror, Straight From the Grave, and Shit Outta Luck, a full bar, and a $10 cover for those aged 21 and over.  The Paper.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Sept. 3, Albuquerque council approved three Gateway Center contracts that add 100 new shelter beds for women, men and young adults—helping the city serve people from all over the state. Councilors also deferred a $21.8 million state funding deal until September 15 to allow public review of new oversight rules.  The Paper.
  • New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that the state will begin offering free child care to all families starting November. The program will remove income eligibility requirements — saving about $12000 per child each year.  KOAT
  • Bernalillo County officials voted in August to let the county accept $150 million in state funds for affordable and transitional housing projects; they plan to work with the City of Albuquerque and the Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative to identify funding gaps — a step toward quickly starting crucial projects once the funds become available.  The Paper.
  • The U.S. Supreme Court lifted restrictions on immigration stops in Los Angeles as of Monday, and New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez warned that ICE may use the ruling to launch more race-based stops in our state (he urged residents to know their rights and record agent details).  KUNM
