- ➤ TEDxABQ will return to Albuquerque on Sept. 27 after a three-year hiatus from its popular speaker series, and listeners can expect a range of fresh ideas from local and visiting speakers. Albuquerque Journal
- ➤ Indigenous playwright Dillon Chitto wrote Pueblo Revolt at Santa Fe Playhouse in August—a 90-minute play that mixes history and humor to retell a 17th century uprising while showing Native hope. The production shifts focus from past sorrow to modern Indigenous joy. New Mexico In Depth

- ➤ The University of New Mexico reported record growth this fall as the Albuquerque campus enrollment jumped to 23,955 with 3,814 new first-year students—the largest incoming class ever. Overall, UNM campuses saw a 4.5% increase to 28,285 students as growth continues over consecutive years. University of New Mexico
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Floods from rainstorms last month damaged more than 30 historic acequias in northern New Mexico, including in Chimayó, Pojoaque, and Ojo Caliente — causing millions in damage and risking two lost growing seasons for local farmers. Acequia leaders are now gathering damage assessments while state or federal disaster aid remains uncertain. Source NM
- ➤ A team from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and the Smithsonian discovered a new plant fossil from 290 million years ago that shows southern New Mexico had flood plains long ago. The fossil, named Socorropteris cancellarei after a museum helper, may lead scientists to search more widely for rare plants in ancient sandstone—suggesting old life was more varied. KUNM

- ➤ On Monday the Albuquerque City Council approved a pilot program that will offer up to 25 housing vouchers for people in recovery from detox or treatment programs and require continued sobriety with enrollment in Narcotics or Alcoholics Anonymous—participants will also face drug screens to maintain their housing. City officials said safeguards will allow those who experience a relapse to remain housed so they can focus on recovery. KUNM

- ➤ Today, the FDA has formally recognized reductions in WHO Risk Drinking Levels as a valid measure in Alcohol Use Disorder trials in a review led by UNM Distinguished Professor Katie Witkiewitz.
